Joy Elvin, the administrative manager for the American Boat Builders & Repairers Association is a seasoned project administrator, with over 25 years’ experience working with small not-for-profit organizations. She has a proven track record in project administration, staff development and training, office administration, meeting and event planning, among other relevant abilities. Most recently she was the Stewardship & Communications Manager for the Naval War College Foundation; an independent consultant for Sailors for the Sea, where she researched and drafted their first Clean Boating Guide; and Program Coordinator for the British Virgin Island National Parks Trust, where she managed the Marine Parks and Protected Areas System and Reef Protection Program.
Joy originally hails from Jersey in the Channel Islands, where she learned to sail as a teenager negotiating 40 ft. spring tides, and she has continued her love of the oceans and boating, on everything from a 12 ft. fishing skiff, to Lasers, J24's, to cruising and racing on larger yachts up and down the Caribbean. She and her husband are currently refurbishing a Galaxy 32.
She is passionate about conservation and is a member of the Stewardship Committee for the Aquidneck Land Trust, and is a Board Member of the Rhode Island Marine Archaeology Project.
Joy holds a Master of Arts in Interpretation, Representation & Heritage and BTEC National in Business Administration and Tourism.
