What makes Underwater Lights Ltd the most trusted supplier of underwater lights ?
Peter Urquhart the sole owner of Underwater Lights Ltd studied marine engineering in Newcastle
from 1966 to 1969. By 1976 he became one of the youngest marine engineers to pass the -
Certifi cate of Competency as First Class Engineer Steamship and Motorship
From 1977 his sea faring career transferred to shore based employment working as a surveyor for
Lloyds Register of Shipping (LRS), Salvage Association, Principal Surveyor for Nobel Denton and then as
an Independent Marine Surveyor surveying commercial ships, off-shore installations, yachts and project
managing refi ts for luxury yachts.
In 1990 by chance a request came in for four underwater lights for a new construction in Holland.
The lights were designed, manufactured and tested by Peter and were Lloyds Approved for the new build.
These were the fi rst underwater lights installed on a luxury 50 meter yacht.
The second installation was for a 100 meter new build which had 32 lights and the underwater light business
was born.
By continuous investment, the company has a machine workshop (approved by LRS) and 5,000 square feet
of space for design, testing and production of all our lights.
Three years studying subjects such as electronics, thermal dynamics and physics in Newcastle has enabled
Peter to design and manufacture the new range of LED deck and underwater lights under the
Trade Mark name of Qt LED.
The name was derived from people saying how cute our designs were. Pronounce capital ‘Q’ and small ‘t’
and you have our slogan- ‘Cute on size Big on light’
with 54 years experience in the marine industry
